National Helpline ‘5 Million Men’ Goes Live
Safeline is delighted to announce the launch of ‘5 Million Men’ the first dedicated National Helpline and Online Support service for the 5 million male survivors of rape and sexual abuse in the UK.
A team of specially trained advisors will provide help, support and information through a Freephone telephone helpline, SMS Text messaging, email and instant message chat. Men will also be able to access free online and telephone counselling. The new service has been funded by the Ministry of Justice and is in partnership with major rape and sexual abuse services around the country.
Neil Henderson, CEO of Safeline said, ‘1 in 6 men have experienced rape or sexual abuse, that’s 5 million men in the UK. It’s a shocking statistic and at Safeline we are working hard to support male survivors, their families, partners and friends to prevent sexual abuse from happening.’
A survivor of childhood sexual abuse said, “It took me years to come forward and get the support I needed to come to terms with what happened to me. I want to tell other men who have been raped or abused that they are not alone, and that support is out there if they want it.”
The new ‘5 Million Men’ telephone helpline number is 0808 800 5005.
